This is our first dedicated engineering hire.
You'll own the technical foundation of Drumbeat as a hands-on individual contributor, partnering closely with the CPO on product and shipping the systems that sit at the core of what we do.
You'll architect and build agentic systems in production, make the foundational calls on infrastructure and data, and work directly with customers to ground every decision in real usage. The technical bar at Drumbeat will be the bar you set.
Design, build, ship and iterate the Drumbeat platform end-to-end, frontend, backend, infrastructure, data.
Architect production-grade agentic systems: orchestration, tool use, memory, evals, observability, guardrails, reliable failure handling.
Help semi-technical peers ship production-quality code by creating strong guard rails and putting the power of agentic orchestration into
Make the foundational calls on architecture, infrastructure, data model, and LLM integration.
Work directly with customers to elicit user problems and collaboratively solve them in a cross-functional team
Have opinions on what we should build as well as how we should build it. Care about what we’re building, ship your part, and feel awesome when people love using it.
Set the engineering practice, code review, testing, deployment, AI-in-the-loop development, through how you work, not how you manage.
Senior individual contributor experience, with at least one zero-to-one product shipped to production.
Full-stack fluency with deep expertise in at least one of: backend systems, AI/ML engineering, infrastructure, or product engineering.
Demonstrated experience designing and shipping LLM-integrated or agentic systems in production, not prototypes. You can speak specifically to reliability, evals, latency, cost, and what you'd build differently.
Daily, fluent use of modern AI development tooling (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or equivalents).
A clear, teachable point of view on engineering practice for small AI-native teams.
Strong customer focus, you will be interested in the problem as much as the solution.
Comfort with ambiguity and a bias to ship, even when the brief isn't fully formed.
No job is too small. You don't play to the edges of your role, if supplies need unpacking or the office needs sorting, you're in, same as when the architecture needs solving.
You're comfortable being a face for engineering at Drumbeat, local meetups, panels, podcasts, the occasional blog post. You see it as part of the job, not a distraction from it.
Prior founding engineer or first-engineer experience at a high-growth startup.
B2B SaaS, marketing tech, content platform, or media tech background.
Familiarity with PR, comms, or earned-media workflows.
Modern web stack with a heavy AI/LLM layer. We bias toward shipping fast, using AI tooling as default, and choosing tools that let a small team punch well above its weight. You'll have meaningful input on the stack as it evolves.
High-ownership Individual Contributor role with direct customer contact and short feedback loops
Studio backing and operator network from New & Improved (Tracksuit, Ideally, Aether)
Opportunity to build and grow in a pre-seed company with real customers and real revenue
